There are 18 wide receivers looking to impress NFL teams at the Shrine Bowl this week, but perhaps no one stood out more on Day 1 than Konata Mumpfield.

Mumpfield — a 6-foot-1, 185-pound wideout from Dacula, Ga. — earned a lot of praise for his work on the field during drills. He’s a crisp route runner, as evidenced by his time at Pitt, but there’s a good chance he was never able to showcase his true ability fully.

His measurements weren’t super impressive (standing just a touch under 5-foot-11 and weighing in at a chiseled 188 pounds), but it’s not the physical tools that will impress NFL personnel. It’s the technical ability.

Mumpfield has the opportunity to impress NFL teams on the field all week, leading up to the game on Thursday, and he will have the chance to spend time with NFL front office members and coaches all week.

Mumpfield started his collegiate career at Akron, earning freshman All-American honors in 2021, and he transferred to Pitt before the 2022 season.

He entered the program with high expectations, coming off an ACC championship-winning season, and while there have been ups and downs, Mumpfield flashed an impressive skillset all throughout. He’s not the biggest or the fastest wideout, but he consistently worked himself open in Pittsburgh.

He wrapped up his best collegiate season as a senior, leading the Panthers on and off the field as a team captain.

“He’s lead by example, like on Sunday, they had an all-players meeting, they had a players-only meeting,” wide receivers coach JJ Laster said last month. “So, they could talk about what happened on Saturday, and Konata was a part of it, he was one of the captains. So, he’s doing a great job of leading those guys, getting those guys to rally together and just say, hey, the season’s not over, we still got a lot of ball to play.”

Mumpfield hauled in a team-high 52 receptions for 813 yards (15.6 yards per reception) and five touchdowns this season. He recorded 154 receptions for 1,940 yards (12.6 yards per reception) and 11 touchdowns in his three seasons in Pittsburgh.

Konata Mumpfield looks the part of an NFL wide receiver, with four productive college seasons, elite route running ability and leadership intangibles. His stock only appears to be rising this week.
