Staying on the field has been a constant issue for Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jalon Daniels throughout his collegiate career.

Even after playing all 12 games for the first time ever last season, the star signal-caller was still dealing with a nagging injury in 2024, undergoing a minor knee surgery in February.

Jayhawk fans may have felt déjà vu when the report about Daniels' knee initially surfaced, but head coach Lance Leipold put any remaining concerns to the side in a press conference this week.

“Yeah, you know, he’s right on schedule,” Leipold said about Daniels. “He’s doing everything. Trent Carter, our trainer who does an outstanding job, told me about three weeks ago that he saw Jalon throwing the ball as well as he’s seen him."

While Daniels was limited in spring practice, any restrictions the coaching staff had for him appear to be lifted. It is an encouraging piece of news for the KU faithful.

Daniels battled through a lingering back injury for most of the 2023 season, and he suffered a shoulder injury in 2022 that derailed a Heisman-worthy campaign.

He returned to the field for the Jayhawks last year, but it was clear that he was not at his best. Daniels' low completion percentage (57.0%) and alarmingly high interception tally (12) were uncharacteristic for a player of his caliber.

Now that he is reportedly back to 100% and no longer nursing an injury, "JD6" has one more opportunity to help the Kansas football program take a leap before he wraps up his time in Lawrence.

Phillies' Rob Thomson announces Alec Bohm news

The Philadelphia Phillies offense has been a force throughout the 2025 season, averaging 4.6 runs per game — ranking ninth in MLB. However, the lineup hasn’t been at full strength recently, as third baseman Alec Bohm has missed most of the second half. The 29-year-old was selected third overall by Philadelphia in the 2018 MLB Draft and made his big-league debut in 2020, breaking out with a second-place finish in NL Rookie of the Year voting. While he hasn’t consistently replicated that early success, Bohm remains a productive bat and earned his first All-Star selection last season. Phillies announce update on injured third baseman Alec Bohm In 2025, Bohm is batting .278 with a .715 OPS, eight home runs and 42 RBI over 353 at-bats. He is on the 10-day injured list due to a fractured left rib, suffered after being hit by a pitch during a game against the San Diego Padres on July 12. Although he initially played through the discomfort, imaging later revealed the fracture, prompting his placement on the IL. Manager Rob Thomson provided a positive update, saying that Sunday was the best Bohm has felt since the injury and that he hit off the machine on Monday. Edmundo Sosa, Otto Kemp filling in at third as Bohm recovers In Bohm’s absence, teammate Edmundo Sosa has regularly started at third base. Sosa has appeared in 60 games this season, batting .261 with a .706 OPS and four home runs. Otto Kemp has also filled in at the hot corner, and in 13 games during the second half, he’s added pop to the lineup with three home runs and a .773 OPS. Still, the Phillies will be eager to get Bohm back in the lineup, as he’s been the most consistent producer among their third base options. His return will be key as Philadelphia battles in a tightly contested NL East race.

Fever Coach Stephanie White Assigns Blame After Loss to Sparks

The Indiana Fever came crashing back down to earth on Tuesday night following their disappointing 100-91 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. The Fever had a lot of momentum entering this matchup, only to see their five-game winning streak come to an end against a Sparks team that they have failed to beat in three tries this season. Fever Coach Stephanie White Reacts to Loss Indiana head coach Stephanie White was not in a jovial mood during her postgame press conference. The veteran shot-caller was able to see some positives from the loss — including Kelsey Mitchell’s 34-point explosion on seven triples — but White just had to assign blame for the tough defeat. "I felt like we got good shots," White said. "Sometimes they don't fall. ... Oftentimes we can get people going in transition. We couldn't do it because we couldn't get stops. You can't get out on transition when you're consistently taking the ball in the net. "For us, we felt like we had enough, offensively. But we didn't get it done on the defensive end of the floor. ... We got to get better on the defensive end of the floor." Fever Had No Answer for Sparks The Sparks shot 56.1% collectively on Tuesday night, which explains why White just had to call out her team’s defensive shortcomings on the evening. Four L.A. starters scored at least 16 points, with Rickea Jackson (25 points, five rebounds) and Kelsey Plum (25 points on 7-of-11 shooting, 11 assists) leading the charge. Azura Stevens (19 points on 7-of-8 from the floor) and Dearica Hamby (16 points, seven rebounds) also chipped in. Apart from their problems on defense, Indiana’s bench also struggled badly in this one. The bench combined for just two points on 1-of-11 shooting, which is simply unacceptable, especially against a team like the Sparks, who have now won eight out of their last 10 games. Fever Remain Fifth in WNBA This loss saw Indiana fall to 17-13 on the season. They currently remain fifth in the league, and are now 1.5 games behind the Phoenix Mercury, who won on Tuesday, for the No. 4 spot in the WNBA. A top-four finish will secure home-court advantage for the Fever in the first round of the playoffs, and this is an attainable goal they will go and set out for. They will be back in action on Thursday in the fourth and final game of their current road trip. Indiana will battle the Mercury at PHX Arena on Tuesday in a matchup that will have postseason implications.

Brewers righty deserves consideration as dark-horse Cy Young candidate

The Milwaukee Brewers' trade with the Boston Red Sox early in the season flew under the radar. The Brewers acquired former top prospect Quinn Priester from the Red Sox, sending outfield prospect Yophery Rodriguez to Boston on April 7. Pitching prospect John Holobetz was sent to the Red Sox on May 5 to complete the trade. Priester had been expected to be a top-of-the-rotation arm, lauded for his athleticism and plus fastball and curve. However, he struggled during his time in the majors in 2023 and 2024, posting a combined 6.23 ERA and a 1.555 WHiP over 99.2 innings, striking out 69 batters with 41 walks while serving up 19 home runs. Despite a solid outing in his only appearance for the Red Sox, Priester remained in Triple-A as nothing more than pitching depth. That changed with his arrival in Milwaukee. He has exceeded expectations, either as a traditional starter or following an opener. Priester has posted a 3.15 ERA and a 1.190 WHiP over his 114.1 innings for the Brewers, striking out 93 batters with 38 walks. Opponents have mustered a meager .228/.294/.382 batting line in 471 plate appearances with just 13 homers. The Brewers' 64-48 record entering Tuesday is the best in the majors despite a nondescript rotation. While Freddy Peralta is a top-of-the-rotation arm in his own right, staff ace Brandon Woodruff missed all of 2024 and most of the first half of 2025. Pitchers such as Chad Patrick, Tobias Myers and Jose Quintana are back-of-the-rotation arms at this point. The Brewers needed someone to step up with Priester being the unlikely hero. Pitchers Paul Skenes and Zack Wheeler are the prohibitive favorites to win the National League Cy Young Award. BetMGM does not have Priester listed as one of the 10 most likely candidates to take home the hardware. However, Priester's performance, coupled with the Brewers' success this season, is worthy of attention. If he can continue to perform at this level, Priester deserves at least some consideration on the ballot.

Pep Guardiola-Admired Sunderland Talent Turned Down Transfer Approaches From Spain

Sunderland are having a very busy summer, and they have already announced eight signings during the current transfer window. However, manager Regis Le Bris has already acknowledged the need to loan out and sell some players to maintain a reasonable balance in the squad. One of Sunderland fans' favorite players is attracting interest from clubs in Spain, but for now, there is no indication he will leave the club. Sunderland's Patrick Roberts turned down transfer approaches from LaLiga Sunderland fan-favorite Patrick Roberts has turned down transfer approaches from Spanish clubs, though his future at the club remains uncertain. The Sunderland Echo has revealed that Roberts is of interest to several LaLiga clubs, but the 28-year-old winger is not currently considering leaving the Stadium of Light. However, the same outlet notes that both Chemsdine Talbi (20) and Simon Adingra (23), recent signings for the club, can play as right-wingers - the same position as Roberts - meaning competition for that spot is fierce. According to the Sunderland Echo, representatives from at least two Spanish clubs met with Patrick's camp, but for now, the Englishman has rejected the possibility of playing in LaLiga, as the player is "prepared to fight for his place under Regis Le Bris." When Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola praised Patrick Roberts A few years ago, Pep Guardiola expressed his admiration for Patrick Roberts when the Englishman was one of Manchester City's youth players. It was specifically during Roberts' first spell at Premiership side Celtic in 2016 that the Spanish manager highlighted the quality of what is now Sunderland's winger. "He has potential. I am so happy with his performance," said Guardiola after being asked if he counted on the then-youngster for his City squad. "We know his quality, but the decision is not about one game. It is for one season," added the still-Citizens boss in comments reported by the BBC. We'll see what happens with Roberts as August progresses. Read More:
