Lane Kiffin’s exit from Ole Miss months ago continues to haunt both Ole Miss and LSU. The two teams’ rivalry has increased significantly with a new story emerging almost daily about Kiffin’s controversial move.
According to recent comments made by OutKick reporter Trey Wallace on “That SEC Podcast,” Ole Miss has deliberately avoided escalating the feud. They allegedly had information that could further damage Kiffin’s reputation.
Wallace revealed that after Kiffin’s recent comments about Ole Miss and his allegations that the team is still involved in racial discrimination, the Rebels chose not to take any action.
“If Ole Miss wanted to there are things that maybe Lane Kiffin had done on the recruiting trail or maybe he was an a** in the facility,” Wallace said. “Ole Miss does have bullets in the chamber if they wanted to. Not some scandalous stuff or something like that.”
While Kiffin has since apologized for those comments, frustration among portions of the Ole Miss fanbase has remained strong. The conversation also revisited reports that Kiffin met with Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin during his final week at Ole Miss. After this, he officially informed the school he was leaving for LSU.
According to Wallace, Ole Miss leadership told Kiffin before the Egg Bowl that if he accepted another job, he would not coach the team during a potential College Football Playoff run.
Despite the growing public attention surrounding the feud, Ole Miss officials have largely refused to engage in a back-and-forth with their former coach. Wallace praised that strategy during the podcast appearance, suggesting the school’s silence has worked in its favor.
“They have done the smart thing by letting him bury himself,” Wallace said. “Because right now you look at Ole Miss, you’re like, ‘Damn, poor Miss. They’re also a good football team...I’m very interested to see what Keith Carter says,” Wallace added. “He’s going to try to play it off and be like, ‘We’re doing our thing. Let him do his thing.’”
LMAO… Act like a punk, get treated like a punk – by the LSU Administration. I didn’t think it was possible to embarrass them, but clearly Lane did. pic.twitter.com/sroVJTaIdA

Meanwhile, Kiffin appears to have reduced his social media activity following the backlash tied to the Vanity Fair interview. Attention now turns toward his first season at Louisiana State University, where expectations for a College Football Playoff push are already sky-high.
