Lane Kiffin Predicts If Nick Saban Will Coach Again

When Nick Saban suddenly retired at the beginning of last offseason many wondered if that would actually be the last we see of the seven-time national champion on the sideline.

And after rumors began to circulate Monday that the ex-Alabama coach was eyeing a potential return to college football, one of his former assistants decided to weigh in.

Speaking to reporters at the kickoff of SEC Media Days, Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin was asked if he would hire his 73-year-old mentor should he become available.

"He's not going to need me to hire him," Kiffin told the Clarion Ledger. "I don't think he's done. I think he'll be back. Whether that's college or NFL, I think he'll be back."

Kiffin served as the Crimson Tide's offensive coordinator under Saban for three years from 2014-2016 where he also coached up quarterbacks and helped guide Bama to a combined 40-4 record and a national title in 2015.

Its also interesting that the Rebels HC mentioned pro football given the fact that Saban hasn't coached in the NFL since he infamously left the Dolphins for Tuscaloosa in the mid-2000s.

Outside of that, Saban's only other National Football League experience came as the Houston Oilers DBs coach from 1988-1989 and the Browns defensive coordinator from 1991-1994 (under friend and colleague Bill Belichick).

Not everyone is in agreement on Saban's future though, as evidenced by Paul Finebaum's comments this morning:

"I'm much closer to Nick Saban's age than you are and I can assure you ... when you have everything you want and you start playing golf at the best golf clubs in America and you start making friends who belong to even better golf clubs and you make a lot of money for doing very little work on TV, the interest in doing what he walked away from is not very high," the ESPN commentator said.

What chance do you give Saban of coming back to coach again?
