Beyond fandoms and rivalries, we are all people. Human beings all experience and must grapple with life's hardships.
On Tuesday, Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin took a moment to share a letter he received in the wake of the loss of his mother Robin last week.
The card from Rebels cornerback Braylen Williams read, "Your mother, through your memories, will never leave you. You will feel her tender care from now on as a warm serenity in your heart. Hoping you always feel the encouragement of her love and hold in memory all the happy times you spent together."
Williams is a three-star recruit from the class of 2026 who hails from Tupelo, Mississippi. He committed to Ole Miss in April.
Among the several posts shared by Kiffin in recent days, he discussed his mother's reunion with his father.
Kiffin lost his father, Monte, in 2024. The elder Kiffin had a long and celebrated history as a coach and coordinator in both the NFL and college football.
After a short playing career, Kiffin got his start at Nebraska, where he won two national championships. In 2002, he won Super Bowl XXXVII with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the team's defensive coordinator.
Several recent posts from Lane Kiffin show him surrounded by his large family. There are also posts sharing memories and pictures of his mother.
Robin, 81, died on June 17, not quite a year after Monte, who passed on July 11, 2024. They had been married for five decades. The couple had three children: Lane, Chris and Heidi. A cause of death has not been announced publicly.
