Tuesday’s spring practice marked the first time that Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin came face-to-face with WCBI sports director Jon Sokoloff since their infamous back-and-forth on Twitter in late November.
It didn’t take long before Kiffin was asked about the incident, and his comments on the matter in a recent ESPN article, to which he gave a salty yet tongue-in-cheek response aimed at the controversy Sokoloff stirred up.
“It’s interesting you ask that on the first day I’ve seen John in a long time; good to see you, John,” Kiffin joked. “See, I did say (in the article) obstacle is the way, so I do find a way to turn everything positive. I appreciate John for creating all that chaos that he created with his false information. But that allowed us to work through it and, like I said in the article, help our (NIL) collective. So really our fans and our collective should thank John for that.”
Tuesday wasn’t the first time Kiffin took a few jabs at Sokoloff since the incident.

While he interviewed for the Auburn job, Kiffin claimed reports of him leaving were simply exaggerations. He signed a multi-year extension with Ole Miss that will pay him $9 million per year through 2026.
Kiffin is 23-13 in three seasons with the Rebels, leading them to bowl games every year. He’s 84-46 as a college head coach, which includes stints with USC, Tennessee and Florida Atlantic.
