Liberty quarterback Kaidon Salter announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal.
On Monday, Salter released a statement declaring his decision to enter the portal. The junior, who spent four years at Liberty, has one season of college eligibility remaining.
"As I move forward and enter the transfer portal, I will always cherish the memories and invaluable lessons learned here," Salter wrote. "It is time for me to take the next step in my journey and do what I feel is best for my career. With that said, the relationships I've built at Liberty will always remain personal and close to my heart."
Following a brief stint at Tennessee, Salter joined Liberty as a four-star recruit and 247Sports' No. 7 quarterback from the class of 2021. He redshirted his freshman year before accounting for 10 touchdowns in 2022.
In his first career start, Salter led the Flames to a 21-14 victory over UAB with 202 passing and 79 rushing yards.
Last year, Salter steered Liberty to 13 straight wins and a Conference USA title during a breakout campaign. He tossed a school-record 32 passing touchdowns with 9.9 yards per pass attempt while running for 1,089 rushing yards and 12 additional scores.
Salter was named the CUSA's MVP and a Maxwell Award semifinalist.
"The 2023 season will forever hold a special place in my heart as one of the most unforgettable and proudest moments in my career," Salter said in his transfer announcement. "I am grateful to the coaches and staff for allowing me to be myself, both on and off the field."
Salter entered the transfer portal last winter but withdrew and returned to Liberty. He hasn't enjoyed the same dominance in 2024.
Salter has completed just 56.3 percent of his passes for 1,886 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He's totaled 606 passing yards in Liberty's last six games, most recently going 12-of-35 for 83 yards, one touchdown, and a pick in Friday's 20-18 loss to Sam Houston. The defeat knocked the Flames out of the CUSA title race.
