The USC Trojans have established themselves as one of the best recruiting teams in the country over the years. While they have recruited every position flawlessly, their strongest success has been at the quarterback position.

Last year, Jayden Maiava transferred from UNLV, giving the Trojans a formidable quarterback to back up Miller Moss. Maiava, a dual-threat quarterback listed at 6'4'' 220 pounds, displayed moments of brilliance after stepping in to the starting role once the Trojans had a 3-4 record.

Maiava's first sensational performance came in his primary start, where he threw for 249 yards and three touchdowns, plus ran in a touchdown in the Trojans' 28-20 win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He then threw for 295 passing yards and four touchdowns in the Trojans' 35-31 win over the Texas A&M Aggies in the Las Vegas Bowl.

For this upcoming season, the Trojans made another splash in recruiting by recruiting five-star quarterback Husan Longstreet. Many believe that the highly touted quarterback can become the best quarterback in his class.

With two stars to choose from and only one starting quarterback spot, head coach Lincoln Riley has a difficult decision to make.

"The best guy is going to play," stated Riley in response to questions surrounding the quarterback battle.

While Maiava has flashed NFL-caliber talent in his stint so far, he has struggled with inconsistency, a prime example being his three interceptions in a game in which he also threw for nearly 300 yards and four passing touchdowns.

For Longstreet, he is only a true freshman, making mistakes inevitable. Nonetheless, he possesses all the talent in the world and will have an offensive guru in Riley guiding him.

While Maiava is the heavy favorite to be the Trojans starter, Longstreet will certainly push him over the next month and into fall camp. Riley and the Trojans find themselves in a beneficial dilemma this spring.
