At times Saturday, it sure sounded like a Texas home game at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville.
Texas fans showed up in droves at a new venue in the team’s first true SEC road game. It’s hard to turn down a trip to Nashville in the first place. And to see the fifth-ranked Longhorns to boot? Sounds like the perfect weekend in Music City.
The announced crowd was 28,934. Half of that crowd, if not more, wore burnt orange.

“Quite a sight,” safety Michael Taaffe said. “I’m so proud of Longhorn Nation. You know, coming off of a loss, it’s easy to just go back and watch it from home and not travel and not get on this flight. I know it’s expensive, so I’m so proud of Longhorn Nation.
“I appreciate all y'all. If y'all are listening, keep showing up. It makes a huge difference for us. It makes it so fun. We love all our nation.”
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian wasn’t about to let the opportunity go by without thanking the fans.
“First of all, I’d like to thank our fans,” Sarkisian said. “Longhorn Nation was amazing. Unbelievable amount of burnt orange in the stands. Their support was incredible today.”
Saturday marked the ninth straight true road win for the Longhorns, dating back to October 2022.
The Horns will need that mojo in November with two major road trips upcoming. Texas plays at Arkansas on Nov. 16 and at Texas A&M on Nov. 30.
Razorbacks fans went hog wild when the Longhorns came to town in September 2021. The Aggies and Longhorns have not met on the football field since A&M left the Big 12 for the SEC after the 2011 season. Both games are expected to be wild affairs.
Texas will need a raucous environment at its two remaining regular-season home games, too.
Texas will be idle next week and then return to action against Nov. 9 against Florida at Royal-Memorial Stadium. Florida’s only previous appearance in Austin was in 1939.
Kentucky also comes to Austin on Nov. 23. The Wildcats were last in Austin in 1951.
