The Texas Longhorns are preparing to take on the defending national champions in Michigan this Saturday, September 7th. The Longhorns will face their first road test as they head to Ann Arbor. Here are the three biggest storylines ahead of the heavyweight matchup.
The Longhorns WR room impressed last Saturday accounting for 355 yards through the air. Michigan CB Will Johnson also had a productive week locking down his opposing WR and returning a 80 yard pick six late in the game versus Fresno State. It will be interesting to see how the Wolverines attack the Texas WR corps, but one matchup everyone wants to see is how Johnson will hold up against many elite playmakers.
This will be a case of good on good as the Longhorns bring one of the best offensive lines in the country, while the Wolverines take pride in a D-line that was a pivotal part of winning the national championship this year. Michigan DL Mason Graham will look to wreck the Longhorn’s backfield, while Texas will look to suppress one of the best defensive lines in the country. This will be a true test for Texas one that may decide the game.
Longhorns HC Steve Sarkisian is one of the more experienced offensive coaches in the country and when the Longhorns take on the Wolverines it is no question who has the upper hand in the coaching department. This may be the biggest mismatch of the entire matchup as everything else feels relatively even. Sarkisian will need to use his head coaching experience to give the Longhorns the advantage in what could likely be an extremely close game.
