The fine would have been worth $50k for a program's first penalty. If a team rushes again the fine jumps to $100k and then $200k for the third offense. The fines will reset after two years.

Virginia beat No. 7 Florida State 46-38 in double overtime and received a $50k fine for its first offense.

The overtime period did not take long to wrap with each team scoring a touchdown. Georgia Tech got the ball first and went up 30-23 before giving Wake Forest the ball back.

The Demon Deacons scored a touchdown as well, but looked to end the game with a two-point conversion. Wake Forest quarterback Robby Ashford then threw an interception to the Georgia Tech defense, ending the game.

The last time Georgia Tech started 5-0 was during the 2014 season. However, the Yellow Jackets last their next two games after the solid start.

2014 was also the last time that Georgia Tech won 11 games in a college football season. That season for Georgia Tech ended with a trip to the Orange Bowl and a 49-34 win over Mississippi State.

Wake Forest is now 2-2 under first-year head coach Jake Dickert, who left Washington State.

Georgia Tech continues its ACC schedule in Week 6 against Virginia Tech on Oct. 11. The Hokies fired their head coach Brent Pry and an 0-3 start to the 2025 season.
