After departing from the Ole Miss Rebels, Lane Kiffin is undergoing his first offseason as the LSU Tigers' head coach. He faces high expectations after LSU's disappointing 2025 season, going 7-6 and losing to the Houston Cougars in the Texas Bowl.
While Kiffin is looking to make it a quick turnaround, he remains focused on the future. LSU has already landed two high-level recruits in the 2027 cycle. That includes four-star EDGE Jaiden Bryant and four-star quarterback Peyton Houston.
With the group slowly taking shape, the Tigers continue to push for elite prospects. EDGE Anthony Sweeney out of Olney, Maryland, first announced his offer from LSU on Dec. 21, less than a month after Kiffin took the job.
Sweeney made his way to Baton Rouge on Saturday for an unofficial visit. Following his time on campus, he spoke to Rivals' Steve Wiltfong, praising his experience.
“LSU is just different!” he said. “It was a great visit overall, and I was excited to see the culture Coach Kiffin has created. There was great energy at practice, and it had a different feel in how they went about things... LSU is in my top 5 for sure. I’m excited to have locked in my OV with them, 28-31 May.”
Sweeney would be a major addition for the Tigers. Rivals Industry Rankings rank him as a five-star recruit, the No. 3 EDGE and the No. 20 player in the nation. At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, he already has impressive size for a high school junior. Last season at Our Lady of Good Counsel, he recorded 34 tackles, five tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 11 games.
While the Tigers have made a strong impression, they face some high-powered competition. Sweeney holds offers from other programs, including Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina, Maryland, and Tennessee. However, his official visit to Baton Rouge on May 28 will give LSU a chance to pull ahead.
