Heading into the 2025 college football season, head coach Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers have a lot of expectations and goals behind them. A key to them achieving their potential is going to be getting off to a fast start. This program has lost five straight season openers, including three straight under Coach Kelly, and that is going to need to be changed.

LSU is set for a huge opening season matchup against the Clemson Tigers, a team that some believe could be the best in college football this season. It wasn’t much of a surprise that matchup was a hot topic of conversation on Monday at SEC Media Day.

Star linebacker Whit Weeks was asked about his mindset heading into that matchup, and reversing that bad luck in opening games recently.

“You don’t want to lollygag into the season,” Weeks said. “You want to go get into a fistfight in the first week.

We know what our past records have been at home games, and everyday we go into work to change that narrative. Everybody in the whole building knows what the goals are for this season, and Clemson is just the first team that we have to beat in order to achieve those goals.”

Weeks is coming off of an end of season leg injury, including a dislocated ankle and broken fibula. Prior to that injury, he was playing like one of the very best linebackers in the country. In 13 games, Weeks managed to collect 125 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and an interception.

The 6-2, 225-pound defender should once again be amongst the nation’s best, as well as a crucial leader for the LSU program. The team seems extremely focused heading into the 2025 season, and they will need to be with all the expectations they have set.

Coach Kelly is also heading into a very important year four with the program. If the team comes out swinging against Clemson, and comes out with a victory, they would be a legitimate contender. Until then, they are a team with a ton of preseason hype that needs to actualize their talent into on field production.

August 30th in Clemson, South Carolina promises to be a show. Get your popcorn ready and enjoy a battle between two of the very best teams in college football, potentially.
