LSU top recruit already turning heads for the Tigers, looks set to fight for massive role heading into 2025 CFB season
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

One of the biggest recruiting victories in the 2025 class for head coach Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers was Marion (Ark.) High School offensive lineman Carius Curne. The LSU program was able to beat out the likes of Georgia, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Florida for the outstanding prospect. He ranked right near the top as one of the most impressive signees from the cycle.

Curne finished the 2025 recruiting class as the No. 71 overall player and No. 3 interior offensive lineman according to the 247Sports Composite ranking. He was a consensus top-150 overall player in the 2025 class overall, some ranking him as an offensive tackle and others rating him in the interior.

Since arriving in Baton Rouge, Curne has quickly made his presence felt. That appears to be true both on the field, and in the weight room. At 6-5 and 335 pounds, Curne is a physically mature lineman with unreal power and upside to work with. It isn’t overly surprising to see him make people take notice early on.

The biggest question surrounding Curne is what impact he can make during his freshman season in 2025. It appears that he will be physically ready to play, but what are reasonable expectations for him? It starts with figuring out his best position.

Curne has spent a lot of time practicing at left tackle so far for LSU, and he currently sits as the projected backup to Tyree Adams to man the blindside. With very limited game experience for Adams, it could be intriguing to see if Curne can push him potentially for that spot at all this offseason. Projected starting right tackle Weston Davis also lacks in experience, and could be pushed if LSU chose to create competition.

Offensive tackle can be a tough transition for true freshman, so the most likely outcome feels like Curne will be brought along slowly. The next natural question, however, would be whether Curne getting a look inside at guard might be an option. That is the overall strength of the offensive line, so I’m not sure that’s a route the Tigers would go.

LSU received transfers from former Virginia Tech starting center Braelin Moore and Northwestern guard Josh Thompson this offseason, and both are projected to start on the interior. The other starting guard spot seems destined for DJ Chester, although that is a bit up in the air. Chester spent to the 2024 season as the team’s top center.

Is it possible that Curne could push Chester or Paul Mubenga for the other starting spot? That remains to be seen.

Regardless, the future for Curne in Baton Rouge is very bright. You can bet his massive presence will be felt soon, quite literally. He has a special combination of size and movement skills. It’s only a matter of time until LSU fans see first hand.
