Matt Rhule Hit With Nebraska Ultimatum After Hot Seat Concerns Grow

After a fairly decent 2024–25 season, expectations from Matt Rhule and the Nebraska Cornhuskers football were significantly higher heading into 2025–26. However, the season turned into a disappointment.

Not only did the Cornhuskers struggle on the field, but they also took a hit in the transfer portal, losing key names like Dylan Raiola.

When multiple setbacks hit a program within a short span, the head coach is naturally the first to land on the hot seat—and that’s exactly the situation Rhule finds himself in right now.

Amid this growing pressure, and with the 2026 season approaching, national analyst Ari Wasserman has made it clear that Nebraska’s stance toward its head coach may no longer be about expectations.

Analyst said, “This year Nebraska has to win 10 games.” Later, he added, saying, “And they probably won’t.”

Ari makes it clear that winning around 10 games is crucial for the Cornhuskers this season. However, at the same time, he doesn’t sound fully convinced that Matt Rhule can actually deliver that result.

In other words, the expectation is clearly set—but the confidence in head coach meeting it is still uncertain.
