Miami Hurricanes Coach Offers Bold Prediction on Carson Beck’s NFL Future

After spending the last five seasons in Athens, Georgia, star quarterback Carson Beck is set to make his Miami Hurricanes debut in just a few weeks when they open the year against the No. 6 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a highly anticipated top-10 Week 1 showdown.

Beck remains one of the more intriguing prospects in college football. Before his 2024 season at Georgia, he was projected as a potential top quarterback in the draft class.

However, after a somewhat down year statistically, Beck opted to withdraw from the NFL draft and enter the transfer portal. He ultimately landed in Miami, with his last game for Georgia being the SEC Championship—where he led the Bulldogs to victory but tore his UCL in the process, sidelining him for the College Football Playoff.

Now, with the season fast approaching, reports out of Miami say Beck is not only impressing coaches but also turning heads among teammates with how well he’s playing. According to offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, he believes he has another No. 1 pick on his hands—going from coaching Cam Ward in 2024 to Beck this season.

Carson Beck committed to Georgia in 2020 but took a redshirt year before eventually becoming the starter in 2023, following two national championship runs as Stetson Bennett’s backup.

That 2023 campaign—his first as the full-time starter—was his most productive, with a 72.4% completion rate for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. The following season, however, saw a slight dip as he completed 64.7% of his passes for 3,485 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

The drop in efficiency, combined with a season-ending injury, was enough to hurt his draft stock and ultimately led to his decision to return for a sixth and final year of college football.
