August is a time for roster movement, and at times departures. On Monday morning Miami head coach Mario Cristobal announced that transfer wide receiver Cam Vaughn had been dismissed from the program.

No reason was given for Vaughn’s dismissal during Coach Cristobal’s announcement on WQAM Radio in Miami. Cristobal did “wish him the best”, but no other information was given.

Vaughn transferred to Miami from West Virginia after finishing the 2025 season with 35 receptions for 541 yards and four touchdowns with the Mountaineers.

Even with Vaughn’s dismissal, the Canes are far from suffering at the wide receiver position. Malachi Toney returns in the slot, while Daylyn Upshaw and transfer Cooper Barkate (Duke) are poised to handle the outside. Vaughn was expected to be a potential deep threat, but receivers like Josh Moore, Somourian Wingo and Vandrevius Jacobs should be able to fill that void.

Coach Cristobal’s accumulation of top-level talent makes a loss like this in August manageable.
