The Michigan Wolverines entered Saturday's matchup with the Northwestern Wildcats with the third-most-productive ground game in the Big Ten.

Sherrone Moore's rushing attack was averaging 223.8 yards per game, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't have liked to get better news on junior tailback Justice Haynes, who missed the team's previous outing, against Purdue, after suffering a right foot injury against Michigan State.

"Gus Johnson just said on FOX broadcast that Michigan RB Justice Haynes is done for the season," On3's Pete Nakos wrote Saturday afternoon on X. "He underwent foot surgery and there was previously some hope for a return against Ohio State."

Haynes has totaled 857 yards on 121 carries, ranking third in the Big Ten in rushing yards despite missing more than two-and-a-half contests. Haynes had gone for at least 100 yards in each game that he'd started and finished.

Without Haynes, Michigan will have to lean on sophomore Jordan Marshall, who's gone for 729 yards and eight touchdowns on 124 carries. True freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood has chipped in on the ground with 272 yards and four scores.

Haynes transferred to Ann Arbor after spending his first two collegiate go-rounds with the Alabama Crimson Tide. During his time in Tuscaloosa, he played in 25 games, carrying the ball 105 times for 616 yards and nine touchdowns.

Dan Lanning's Oregon Ducks (233.6 yards per game) had the Big Ten's top rushing game entering the day. Curt Cignetti's Indiana Hoosiers (231.9) were the only other team in front of Michigan.
