Signing day is right behind them, but with the transfer portal just about to open, the Michigan Wolverines need to get to work.
They fired head coach Sherrone Moore with cause over an alleged relationship with a Michigan staffer.
The Wolverines had gone 9-3 last season and were just getting ready to face Texas in the Citrus Bowl.
Now, according to a report by On3's Pete Nakos, they have less than one month to find their new head coach.
"Michigan would ideally like to have its next head coach in place by Jan. 2, when the transfer portal opens," Nakos wrote on X.
Moore was handpicked to replace Jim Harbaugh when he left for the NFL. He got a five-year contract and was slated to make $6.1 million this season with an $500,000 annual retention bonus.
The Wolverines named associate head coach Biff Poggi as the interim head coach. He was in charge of the team for the two games during which Moore was suspended this season.
Of course, Poggi will be among the many candidates under consideration for the job on a full-time basis.
The timing couldn't be worse for the Wolverines, but they can still get their hands on a suitable replacement for the now-infamous head coach.
Brian Kelly and Kalen DeBoer could be at the top of their wish list, although, depending on how they fare for the remainder of the NFL season, even former Wolverines like Jesse Minter or John Harbaugh could also be in the mix.
