Michigan Wolverines fans can finally rest easy as some of the most important recruiting news of the offseason just dropped thanks to Sherrone Moore and his staff.

The Michigan offense was absolutely putrid this past season, but five star quarterback Bryce Underwood should get the team back on track soon. However, there were still significant questions about who he would be throwing the ball to for the next few years in Ann Arbor heading into this offseason. Those might be answered now.

Four Star WR Travis Johnson commits to Michigan

The Wolverines had two wide receivers signed to their 2026 recruiting class prior to this week in speedster Jaylen Pile and top 100 consensus recruit Zion Robinson. Now Michigan's landed their third and perhaps best wide receiver of their 2026 class in Travis Johnson.

Johnson is a highly rated four star wide receiver from the state of Virginia who was being pursued hard by both Penn State and South Carolina, but announced on July 4th that he would be headed to Michigan.

Travis Johnson offers smooth speed, strong hands, and natural route running ability for his 6'3", 185-pound size. His style of play and stature are quite reminiscent of early career Nico Collins just before he was coming into Michigan, and that's the exact kind of player all 40 schools who offered him likely wanted him to become for them.

Travis Johnson fit with the Michigan Wolverines

The Michigan Wolverines have put a patchwork group of receivers together for this year with Donaven McCulley likely the X, some mix of Anthony Simpson and Semaj Morgan playing the gadget/slot roles, and Fred Moore moving all over the formation. However, all four of those wide receivers aren't exactly game-changers, and at least two or three will be gone after this season.

Michigan did bring in one true freshman who could project as the Wolverines' future X receiver in Jamar Browder thanks to his 6'5", 208-pound frame, but he doesn't look to be quite as dynamic as Travis Johnson. There's a good chance those two will be competing for that spot with Johnson likely winning the job as a true freshman next year.

Zion Robinson (WR who committed two weeks ago) should be the heir to Fred Moore. Jaylen Pile should be the future slot. Michigan's star addition in the 2025 class Andrew Marsh will likely compete for a large chunk of rotational snaps. The Wolverines finally have a receiver group for the future and Michigan is now on pace to finish with a top seven class in 2026. Sherrone Moore just continues to deliver.
