The Michigan Wolverines' passing attack almost cost them a chance at a winning season in 2024 as quarterbacks Davis Warren, Jack Tuttle, and Alex Orji combined for a measly 1,678 yards passing while taking turns at the helm of the offense.
Departed OC Kirk Campbell's passing game failed to produce a receiver with 600 yards or more as Michigan was forced to make due without a core tenant of any reasonably good college football offense.
On Saturday, word broke of one of Michigan's most well known holdovers revealing a potential new role in new OC Chip Lindsey's system.
Semaj Morgan, who came to Michigan as a highly touted recruit, appeared to indicate that a big season could be in store.
According to Wolverines reporter Isaiah Hole, Michigan wideout Semaj Morgan recently spoke of a new route tree that is expected to include him, giving him more chances to shine this season.
"It's night and day because I'm running more routes -- I don't want to be running bubbles all day and stuff like Coach Campbell had me doing -- that's not my thing," Morgan said according to Hole.
Morgan has a knack for making big plays on reverses and short balls but hasn't been involved in the deep passing game.
The West Bloomfield, MI native had 27 catches for 139 yards last year with a long of 31. He is often forced to make several defenders miss in order to get his yards, a challenge that appeared to take a toll on him late in the season.
If Morgan can keep defenses honest by running successful routes of 10, 15 yards or longer, he could find himself becoming a top tier wide receiver in a stacked Big Ten Conference this fall.
