The Minnesota Frost may have lost some key players in the PWHL's expansion draft, but they'll add a few more before they attempt to defend their back-to-back Walter Cup titles.
The PWHL Draft is taking place on June 24, and the Frost are hosting a watch party at Tom Reid's Hockey City Pub, just blocks from their home rink in downtown St. Paul.
The six-round draft takes place in Ottawa, but the Walter Cup will be sitting in St. Paul for the draft party. There will also be specialty cocktails and ticket giveaways as fans find out who is joining the Frost.
Having won the Walter Cup, the Frost will select sixth overall. While top picks like Clarkson's Haley Winn, Colgate's Kristyna Kaltounková, and Wisconsin's Casey O'Brien are likely to be off the board by the time the Frost are on the clock, there are exciting prospects that could wind up calling Xcel Energy Center home.
That includes former Gopher forwards Ella Huber and Natalie Mlynkova, who could be first-round picks next week.
Other draft-eligible players who played their collegiate hockey in the state include Duluth forwards Olivia Mobley and Olivia Wallin, Duluth defenders Nina Jobst-Smith and Hanna Baskin, Gopher forward Peyton Hemp, St. Cloud's Emma Gentry, and St. Cloud goaltender Sanni Ahola.
For the 2025-26 season, the PWHL will have two new teams, with Seattle and Vancouver joining the burgeoning league. Neither team has yet revealed their nickname.
In the expansion draft and preceding signing period, each of the original six teams lost four players. In the draft, Vancouver selected Frost forwards Brooke McQuigge and Denisa Křížová just days after signing away defenders Sophie Jaques and Claire Thompson.
The Minnesota Frost's PWHL Draft watch party starts at 6 p.m. and is free to attend.
