When Jeff Lebby said Mississippi State was going to get tougher in the trenches, this is exactly what he meant.
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs secured a critical piece for their 2025 offensive line rebuild as Purdue transfer Jaekwon Bouldin announced his commitment to Mississippi State. A 6-foot-6, 345-pound offensive tackle from Canton, Mississippi, Bouldin is not just a hometown story—he’s a cornerstone addition.
Bouldin’s journey back to Mississippi is one of persistence and potential. Originally a standout at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC, Bouldin was a 3-star JUCO prospect with offers from SEC heavyweights like Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Auburn. He chose Purdue, but after missing the 2024 season due to injury, he’s returning home with unfinished business. This isn’t just a transfer—it’s a player reconnecting with his roots, bringing SEC-ready size and edge.
Mississippi State’s offensive line woes were well documented last season. The Bulldogs struggled to protect the quarterback and establish a consistent run game, ranking 12th in the SEC in sacks allowed (34). Head coach Jeff Lebby and new OL coach Phil Loadholt have prioritized fixing that, and Bouldin is their first major move. With his elite frame and JUCO pedigree, he instantly adds depth and upside at a position that desperately needed both.
Bouldin may be the first, but he won’t be the last. MSU remains in pursuit of more linemen, including Virginia tackle Blake Steen, Florida State guard TJ Ferguson, and Colorado center Cash Cleveland. The goal is clear: build a unit that can compete in the trenches come SEC play. Bouldin’s commitment sets the tone for what’s to come—and it’s a promising one.
Bulldog fans, circle the calendar. Jaekwon Bouldin’s homecoming could be a defining moment for this offensive rebuild. If State continues to stack wins in the portal, expect a very different—and much stronger—Mississippi State offense this fall.
