Mountain West Conference postpones football, fall sports due to pandemic?

Stadium's Brett McMurphy is reporting the Mountain West Conference is postponing football and all fall sports seasons because of the worsening coronavirus pandemic.

The Mountain West became the second Football Bowl Subdivision conference to cancel fall sports. On Saturday, the Mid-American Conference announced the postponement of fall sports for member schools.

The Mountain West remains open to scheduling a springtime football format.

McMurphy added that a Power Five Conference source told him the "college football season ultimately is done" after the MAC declared its decision.

"I don’t think everyone necessarily follows the MAC, but it gives other presidents one more reason to make an easier decision," the source reportedly said. "The biggest thing is unknown long-term impact of COVID & liability issues involved. I’m not optimistic.”

Earlier in the day, reports surfaced that both the Big Ten and Pac-12 could announce cancelations of their conference-only football seasons on Tuesday.
