Multiple Tennessee Vols defenders enter NCAA transfer portal
Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

A couple of Tennessee Vols defensive backs entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday morning.

Redshirt senior defensive back Brandon Turnage and true freshman Jack Luttrell entered the portal on Monday according to multiple reports.

Turnage's decision to enter the portal isn't shocking. He has one year of eligibility remaining and he's likely looking for more consistent playing time as his career nears its end. Turnage is a former four-star recruit who signed with Alabama during the 2019 recruiting cycle. He transferred to Tennessee in July 2021. The Mississippi native had nine tackles while playing in all 12 games for the Vols in 2023.

Luttrell's decision to enter the portal is a bit more surprising. The former three-star recruit wasn't expected to see the field much as a true freshman. The Georgia native played in three games (appearing on special teams) for Tennessee in 2023.

It's worth noting that Luttrell appeared to call out Tennessee's NIL collectives last summer.

Neither portal addition is a major loss for the Vols, but it certainly impacts Tennessee's depth. The Vols would be wise to attempt to add some defensive back talent to the roster via the transfer portal.
