The Texas Longhorns are moving on the College Football Playoff semifinals after their thrilling overtime win against Arizona State on New Year's Day.
But despite the fact that the Longhorns' season isn't over yet, folks are already looking ahead to the 2025 season when quarterback Arch Manning is expected to take over as the starting quarterback at Texas.
Current Longhorns starting quarterback Quinn Ewers is expected to either enter the 2025 NFL Draft or the NCAA transfer portal. Either way, it would be a surprise if he's back at Texas in 2025.
Manning, a former five-star recruit from New Orleans, saw some extended action for Texas as a redshirt freshman in 2024, going 2-0 as a starter against Louisiana-Monroe and Mississippi State while filling in for an injured Ewers.
With Manning likely set to take over as the starter in Austin next fall, there are already some early predictions on how the 2025 season will go for Texas.
On Thursday, 247Sports' Brad Crawford made his "way-too-early" prediction for the Longhorns' record in 2025 and he has Texas going 11-1 during the regular season.
From 247Sports: The expectation is Quinn Ewers will declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, but guess who Steve Sarkisian has waiting in the wings? Former five-star Arch Manning, who has patiently sat behind Ewers for two seasons without fear of transfer. National freshman of the year Colin Simmons is back at edge, along with talented linebacker Anthony Hill, a potential future first-rounder. The Longhorns reload with the No. 1 signing class for 2025 with a couple of those freshmen expected to play early.
11-1 would be quite impressive for the Longhorns next season.
Texas starts the 2025 season on the road against Ohio State. They also travel to Athens for a game against Georgia in November.
Additionally, a trip to the Swamp in late September against a much-improved Florida team could be a tricky matchup for the Longhorns.
Texas will undoubtedly enter the 2025 season as a legitimate national title contender. And they certainly have the talent to finish 11-1. But it's not a given that the Longhorns will waltz through a schedule that features a couple of daunting matchups.
