Carson Beck has become a bit of an afterthought in the college football world after transferring from the Georgia Bulldogs to the Miami Hurricanes. Or at least that's been the vibe this offseason, with Beck falling down many quarterback rankings charts.
It's true that the Georgia passing game had its problems last year with Beck under center. However, much of those problems stemmed from a wide receiver corps that couldn't seem to be able to catch the ball if their lives depended on it at times.
Now, Beck is stepping into Shannon Dawson's offense, who helped turn Cam Ward into a superstar last year. And one national outlet likes his chances of also having an improved season in 2025 in Coral Gables.
Pro Football Focus put out their list of the top 10 returning players at each position in 2025, and Beck checked in all the way up at #3 on the list.

This is what PFF had to say about Beck:
After entering 2024 as PFF's top-ranked quarterback in college football, Beck disappointed in his final year at Georgia before transferring to Miami to replace Cam Ward. The redshirt senior’s 20 turnover-worthy plays this past season were tied for the sixth most in the country. As that number would indicate, Beck often forced throws due to the Bulldogs’ underwhelming receiving corps. Georgia’s 31 drops on the season were tied for the second most in the Power Four.
Beck still performed at a solid level (80.2 PFF passing grade in 2024), earning a top-three place on this list for his overall body of work. His 90.9 PFF overall grade since 2023 is the second-best mark of any returning FBS quarterback. Beck will look to replicate Ward's success in South Beach and reemerge in Heisman and NFL draft conversations. - Max Chadwick, PFF
One thing that Ward enjoyed that Beck won't, to speak the obvious, is a bevy of experienced, future NFL talent to throw to. Miami's pass catching group for Ward included Xavier Restrepo, Jacolby George, new Alabama WR Isaiah Horton, Sam Brown, and TE Elijah Arroyo. All but Horton are off to the professional level, leaving Miami searching for young and inexperienced playmakers to emerge.
That being said, it's hard to see how this group could be as bad as what Beck dealt with in 2024 in Athens. There is still talent there for Miami to realize. Jojo Trader is a super talented young player who could be a breakout candidate. Ny Carr, Ray Ray Joseph, and LSU transfer CJ Daniels are also players to watch.
Beck has the talent to thrive in Dawson's offense. And if he does, looking back at offseason rankings, a lot of people could be looking a bit silly by the time December comes around.
