The transfer portal has been a part of college football since 2018 and has had a significant impact on the sport.

The portal has undergone numerous changes, including the introduction of transfer windows, which are specific time periods during which players can enter. Currently, college football has two transfer windows.

The first starts on December 8 and goes until December 27, while the second begins on April 16 and ends on April 25. The NCAA is inching closer towards a single window, per Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger.

The NCAA Football Oversight Committee voted Thursday to support a single window from January 2-12.

Dellenger stated that the Administrative Committee still needs to adopt the move following the vote to support it.

Back in April, a record number of players hit the portal, via 247Sports' Chris Hummer. On April 17, he reported that there were 3,922 players in the portal, which broke the previous record for a single cycle of 3,883. That was also with nine days left in the spring transfer window.

The NCAA is also going through a lawsuit led by Vanderbilt linebacker Langston Patterson and other college athletes. Patterson is challenging the NCAA's rule on eligibility in the hopes of extending it five years without taking a redshirt.

Patterson is teammates with quarterback Diego Pavia, who won his case against the NCAA to extend eligibility for JUCO transfers. Pavia gained an extra year of eligibility for 2025 after spending two seasons at the New Mexico Military Institute.

Week 2 of the 2025 season is just on the horizon. The game of the week last weekend was No. 1 Texas vs. No. 3 Ohio State, with the Buckeyes winning 14-7. The Longhorns became the first preseason No. 1 team to lose their season opener since 1990 Miami.

"College GameDay" has chosen the matchup between No. 15 Michigan and No. 18 Oklahoma as its game of the week. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
