Nearing Bowl Eligibility: Kentucky’s Remarkable Season Shift

The Kentucky Wildcats faced off against the 10-0 Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles and came away with a 42-10 win. The Wildcats are now one win away from a bowl game, which seemed out of reach a month ago.

Seth McGowan Big Day

Running back Seth McGowan started the game off quickly with three rushing touchdowns in the first half. The 13 carries and three scores helped Kentucky take a 28-7 advantage into the half and virtually put the game on ice.

Seth McGowan’s journey is truly remarkable.

McGowan began as a standout running back at the University of Oklahoma, gaining recognition as one of the nation’s top players. Despite these setbacks, he continued to pursue his passion for the game, playing at institutions such as Texas College, Butler Community College, and New Mexico State.

Now, McGowan is wrapping up his football career in Lexington, showcasing resilience and determination throughout his path. Quite a redemption story.

Defense Is Shining

The Kentucky defense is on the rise again.

Over their last three games, the Wildcats have limited opponents to just three, seven, and ten points. A unit that stumbled early in the season is echoing a late-season surge—a big compliment for Brad White’s group.

Tennessee Tech came into today’s game as one of the top offenses in all of FCS. Kentucky held it to just 10 points, despite missing some defensive players and introducing new faces.

Next up is another challenge for the Wildcats as they take on Vanderbilt Commodores’ spread offense with Diego Pavia patrolling under center. The focus remains on getting healthy and continuing to improve.

Kentucky Will Miss Kendrick Law

One of the biggest highlights of this season has been Alabama transfer Senior Kendrick Law’s play and his knack for making tacklers miss. Today, he had a career day catching the football with 11 receptions for 124 yards, plus a 40-yard kickoff return just before halftime.

Another highlight for Law was leaping over a defender on an 18-yard gain, setting up another Kentucky touchdown. Playing his best when it counts will be key for the team with two games left and bowl hopes still alive.

Bowl Chances

Two games remain: a trip to face Vanderbilt next week, followed by the rivalry game against the Louisville Cardinals to close the season. No matter what happens from here, the resilience shown by these players and coaches has been a joy to watch.

After the loss to the Tennessee Volunteers in October, things looked grim for Kentucky and its fanbase. The players showed determination, securing a road win against Auburn, followed by back-to-back home victories over Florida and Tennessee Tech, and now they’re within reach of their goal.

A win at the Commodores next week or against the Cardinals would help erase the early-season struggles for a while and bring back some momentum heading into next season.

End Of My Kentucky Football Rant

It’s been a rocky season, but the past few weeks have brought the most joy to the fanbase all year. A three-game winning streak and an inspiring wave of positive momentum from both the team and the coaches.

A win next week at Vanderbilt, or even taking both games or splitting them, would give fans some extra practice time in December—something many thought couldn’t happen. Amazing what can unfold when you start to believe.
