Lateef had made it known that Nebraska made him feel like a priority over this past month. The Huskers were in dire need of a quarterback for the next cycle, and Lateef was one of their primary targets. His pocket-passing ability as well as strong arm gives the program stability at the quarterback position for the future.

Nebraska football scores big out of California

Lateef’s commitment gives Nebraska another opportunity to establish a recruiting base in California. Quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas has made it a point to recruit in that area over the last couple months, and we are seeing the first inklings of his hard work paying off.

This is important for a couple reasons. For one, there will now be four West Coast teams in the Big Ten. Most notably, USC and Nebraska will be going head-to-head for quarterback recruits. The Trojans have established themselves as a quarterback development school, with Lincoln Riley being known as the ‘quarterback whisperer.’ Look no further than Caleb Williams being the first overall pick in this year’s NFL draft.

Landing Lateef could be a step in the right direction for Nebraska for the in the state of California. The state has been known for producing talented quarterbacks, and Lateef could well be on his way in that regard. It’s never a bad idea to plant a recruiting flag there.

Huskers now have long-term future option

Lateef now gives Nebraska football another option in the quarterback room. Yes, he is not on campus yet. However, it’s important to think about the future of the room. Dylan Raiola will likely declare early for the NFL draft. That leaves Daniel Kaelin as the main piece following Raiola’s departure.

Getting him in the fold now means that he will have time to develop once he arrives on campus. He still has a year left at the high school level, so that will give him even more time to develop for the future.

Furthermore, this gives Nebraska football the signal-caller they have been searching for. They started to ramp up the pursuit of a future quarterback last year. They were unsuccessful, with target Alex Manske ending up at Iowa State. Matt Zollers was another target for Nebraska. He ended up committing to Missouri. The hunt for a 2025 quarterback was in full swing, and Nebraska needed another one for the quarterback room.

They managed to get it with Lateef. Not only did they get his commitment, they also were able to land a high-quality quarterback. This is the most depth that Nebraska football has had in the quarterback room in quite some time.
