Following an off week, the WVU football game at Cincinnati on Nov. 9 will kick off at noon and be broadcast on FS1, the Big 12 announced Monday.

West Virginia (4-4, 3-2) and Cincinnati (5-3, 3-2) are in a four-way tie for fifth place in the Big 12 standings. The Bearcats lost 34-23 to Colorado last Saturday and, like the Mountaineers, are on a bye this week.

The former Big East foes renewed their series when Cincinnati joined the Big 12 last season. The Mountaineers thumped the Bearcats 42-21 in Morgantown.

UC and WVU had played every season from 2002-11 conference opponents but hadn’t played in a dozen years since the Big East broke up in 2012. Overall, West Virginia holds a 17-3-1 advantage over Cincinnati in a series that dates back to 1921.

WVU has claimed three straight victories over Cincinnati, including a 24-21 victory in 2011, the last time the Mountaineers played in the Queen City.

West Virginia is coming off of a nail-biting 31-26 victory at Arizona that broke a two-game losing skid.

Backup quarterback Nicco Marchiol started in place of an injured Garrett Greene and threw for 198 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His first-down throw to Jaylen Anderson late in the fourth quarter halted a Wildcat comeback bid and secured the victory.

WVU coach Neal Brown was fired up following the win, praising the team and Marchiol specifically.

“He’s so much better player than the last time he started a game,” Brown said of his quarterback. “So last time he started a game was Texas Tech, and that was in September, I guess, a year ago. And he’s matured, he’s been patient, and he’s gotten better. And I’ve said that a lot, y’all heard me talk about that in the spring, and you heard me talk about it in fall camp, and then he showed that today.”

For a related story, WVU football fans also praised Marchiol following his impressive outing in the desert.
