Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo is coming off a Heisman-level senior season that led the program to its best season in decades.

His 2,000+ scrimmage yards earned him an invite to the NFL draft combine and have him projected as an early day 3 draftee. However, NFL analyst Kyle Brandt has noticed a trend regarding the comparisons for Skattebo. Brandt took the responsibility to go on Good Morning Football and call out the racial profiling against the Sun Devil running back.

Brandt called out the buzz words that are being thrown at Skattebo, “sneaky athletic,” “first in, first out” and more phrases that given to typically white football players. Skattebo ranked second for running back in standing verticals with 39.5″, nothing really sneaky athletic about that number.

Skattebo has been compared to other white running backs that don’t share his playstyle at all like former Cleveland Brown running back Peyton Hillis, who stands five inches taller than the ASU running back. The comparisons to players like Hillis to Skattebo has drove Brandt up a wall, which led to Monday’s rant.

“Over the next 52 days, I do not want to hear the name Toby Gerhart a single time. Don’t say it! If you’re saying it about Cam Skattebo, you’re mailing in your analysis. You’re lazy. They’re not close to the same prospect. While I am at it, while I have you, do not utter the name Peyton Hillis in my presence, stop it! … Do better than just scrolling your nostalgia rolodex for the fastest meathead [white player] you can find, alright? You have to do better!”

The NFL draft is six weeks away, and the Sun Devil running back will have the ASU pro day to wash away those comparisons of other white running backs that don’t share his playstyle. Brandt wants better analysis that isn’t solely based on the race of a star prospect.
