Nick Saban is currently prepping Alabama for the College Football Playoff title game against Georgia on Jan. 10, when he will compete for his seventh national title with the Crimson Tide and eighth overall.
When he was asked in a press conference on Monday about the playoffs potentially expanding to a 12-team format, the 70-year-old coach didn't sound particularly enthused.
"Look, I'm not the one who needs to be deciding what the playoff needs to be," Saban said, via ESPN. "There's a lot of good people out there that can make a decision as to what's best for college football. But the more we expand the playoff, the more we minimize the bowl games, the importance of bowl games, which I said when we went to [a four-team playoff]. So I don't think that's changed, and I also think it's come to fruition."
The decision of whether to expand the current playoff format or not remains a heavily debated topic. While some schools are in favor of the expansion because it gives more programs an opportunity to compete, others see it as a tactic that will water down college bowl season.
Perhaps it's unsurprising that Saban chose not to weigh in on the subject. Monday also marked the 15-year anniversary of him arriving in Tuscaloosa to take over at the helm for the Crimson Tide and, suffice to say, begin building a well-recognized college football dynasty.
