Top high school football recruit Lamar Brown on Thursday announced his college commitment, and he has decided on LSU.

Brown, who is the No. 1-ranked recruit by ESPN for the 2026 class, was deciding between Miami, Texas and Texas A&M, in addition to LSU. But he chose to remain with his hometown college. Brown is from University Lab High School in Baton Rouge, La., making LSU his home school. 247 Sports has him ranked as the No. 1 defensive tackle in the 2026 class and the No. 7 player overall in the class. He is listed at 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds.

Brown put on an oversized LSU hat and unveiled a yellow LSU shirt under his jacket upon making his announcement.

Brown had taken official recruiting visits to all four of his finalist schools since late May. He was picking between LSU and Texas A&M, and there was some thinking that the Aggies came as close as possible to landing him.

Brown is the second five-star recruit in LSU’s 2026 class. He is LSU’s first No. 1 overall recruit since they signed running back Leonard Fournette in 2014.

LSU is coming off a 9-4 season last year, which was their third under coach Brian Kelly. They have gone 29-11 in three seasons under Kelly.
