The Alabama Crimson Tide secured a close 29-22 win over South Carolina with a last-second touchdown on Saturday. Despite being ranked No. 4 and facing an unranked Gamecocks team, Alabama struggled on both sides of the ball for much of the matchup.
Heisman candidate Ty Simpson struggled in his own right, making inaccurate throws and giving up sacks and fumbles. But when it mattered most, he made big plays.
South Carolina held on to an eight point lead in the fourth quarter, but Simpson connected with WR Germie Bernard on a 4-yard touchdown pass before completing a two-point conversion pass to TE Josh Cuevas to tie the game at 22.
With less than 40 seconds left in the fourth, Alabama lined up Bernard at quarterback, who faked a handoff before rolling out for the game-winning touchdown run.
