Under head coach Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame football is carrying some crazy momentum heading into the 2025 college football season. A huge reason for that is the roster that the Fighting Irish staff has managed to put together, both from a high school recruiting and transfer portal perspective. Coach Freeman has also managed to upgrade the staff each and every year, also eyeing talent from a coaching perspective.

This off-season, the team welcomed Jevaughn Codlin as an analyst, and assistant defensive line coach. An underrated addition at the time, Codlin has received some great early remarks from the media as an animated member of the coaching staff who brings some incredible energy during practice. It is said that Codlin's voice can be heard from all over the practice field, and in a good way.

247 Sports recently put together their top 30 under 30 list, which is compiled by reporter Chris Hummer. This list is designed to highlight some of the rising stars in college football, both from a coaching and personnel perspective. Codlin, who is just 28 years old, managed to be included on that list. This is the ninth year that 247 Sports has put this list together.

Codlin previously spent time with the West Virginia program, where he was the assistant secondary coach for the Mountaineers under head coach Neal Brown. During his stint with West Virgina, Codlin was also heavily involved in the recruiting aspects of the program. He is considered a well rounded staff member who can wear a lot of different hats, and possesses a lot of different skills.

Before Codlin was hired as a graduate assistant for the Mountaineers, he was an assistant defensive backs coach at Emporia State for three years. His roots are interesting, having played football at Kansas Wesleyan, where he earned a BA in Sports and Exercise.

He is now working under defensive line coach Al Washington, who has grown a great reputation as a position coach. Coach Washington also stepped up his game tremendously on the recruiting trail in the 2026 class, gaining commitments from five-star pass rusher Rodney Dunham, as well as a highly touted trio of Ebenezer Ewetade, Elijah Golden, and Tiki Hola. Along with fellow assistant defensive line coach Nick Sebastion, Notre Dame has a great group to continue building up this talented defensive line group.
