Notre Dame has a elite cornerback in Benjamin Morrison, but he isn't the only special one

Everybody and their mother knows that Notre Dame cornerback Benjamin Morrison is a superstar. There is a reason that he is being projected as a first round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft next April. You can look at the box score, where he has nabbed nine interceptions and broken up another 15 pass breakups during the course of his Irish career. With how good Morrison is, other prominent members in the secondary tend to go underrated.

That includes sophomore standout Christian Gray, who has been the starting cornerback opposite of Morrison in every game this season. After competing with Jaden Mickey for the starting position, the St. Louis native is flourishing through four games.

In those four starts, Gray has recorded four pass breakups and hauled in his first interception on the season. During this contest against Miami (OH), had multiple pass breakups. If he had better hands, Gray also would have had multiple interceptions during the game. He also almost had one against the Texas A&M Aggies, and another last week against Purdue.

While it could sound hyperbolic after another good performance, there are two things that we need to do with Gray. One, for Notre Dame fans, we need to appreciate how lucky we are as a fanbase. Morrison isn’t the only big time player on the back end, neither is Xavier Watts. Gray is on his way to being a superstar.

For the national media, make sure you get eyes on No. 29 for the Irish. When Morrison moves on after this season, we are all going to be talking about Gray a lot more. There’s a good chance he is even going to be talked about for the 2026 NFL Draft. He has been that good.

Don’t look now but Mike Mickens is continuing his magic in South Bend. This cornerback group has been tremendous, and the future is extremely bright. Even if Gray isn’t a name known on a national level, they will very, very soon.
