Marcus Freeman has a new wide receivers coach at Notre Dame, and it is Mike Brown. The school announced today that Brown was the latest hire by Freeman, and he's the latest hire with a strong connection with Freeman, who worked with Brown before.

Brown comes to Notre Dame from Wisconsin, where he served one season as the team's wide receivers coach and Associated Head Coach. The 34-yard old spent the four previous seasons at Cincinnati, where he worked with Freeman in 2019 and 2020. Brown was also on the Cincinnati staff when the Bearcats went undefeated and earned a spot in the College Football Playoff. That season Cincinnati beat Notre Dame 24-13 inside Notre Dame Stadium.

A former wide receiver at Liberty University and a native of Virginia, Brown also spent a season coaching with the Flames as the team's running back coach (2016). His first coaching job was in 2016 when he served as a graduate assistant at Michigan.

Brown finished his playing career at Liberty back in 2011, but he spent three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL as a player before getting into coaching. Brown caught 39 passes for 534 yards and a pair of scores in his NFL career.

Brown, Freeman, cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens and quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli were all on staff together at Cincinnati during the 2019 season.

Brown had a great deal of success at Cincinnati, putting three wide receivers into the NFL during his four seasons. Alec Pierce was a second round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2022, Tre Tucker was a third round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023 and Tyler Scott was a fourth round pick of the Chicago Bears in 2023.
