As the offseason progresses, more and more outlets continue to revise and refine their offseason position group rankings. A group that has started to gain some national attention is Notre Dame's wide receiver room. CBS Sports gave Mike Brown's group an honorable mention in their latest wide receiver ranking edition. The pass game for the Irish is poised for a breakout in year two of the Mike Denbrock offense and their pass catchers will play an integral role in that breakout.

According to CBS Sports, the top wide receiver rooms in the country are as follows:

No. 1 Ohio State
No. 2 Clemson
No. 3 Alabama
No. 4 Auburn
No. 5 LSU

There's not a lot of debate in the top three units. The Buckeyes return Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate, two of the best receivers in the country. Clemson returns all three of their impact receivers from 2024 including Bryant Wesco, Antonio Williams and TJ Moore. The Crimson Tide return one of the most electric players from last season in receiver Ryan Williams who burst onto the scene as a 17 year old true freshman. He is joined by returning receiver Germie Bernard and Miami transfer Isaiah Horton

There's a little bit of projection used for the final two teams in CBS Sports' list. Outside of returning sophomore Cam Coleman, the Tigers will be relying on a Georgia Tech transfer, Eric Singleton Jr., who has yet to take a snap in an Auburn uniform. LSU has Aaron Anderson returning who led the receiving room last season with 61 rec., 884 yards and five touchdowns but a lot of their receiving room success also uses some projection. LSU will be relying on Nic Anderson an Oklahoma transfer and Barion Brown a Kentucky transfer.

Notre Dame is in a very similar spot to both of these schools. Junior Jaden Greathouse returns as their leading receiver from last season. Greathouse ended the season with 13 rec. for 233 yards and three total touchdowns against Penn State and Ohio State. He's joined by Virginia transfer Malachi Fields who is a 6-4 220 pound big bodied presence in the boundary. In two seasons with the Cavaliers, Fields has totaled 113 rec., 1,619 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. Junior Jordan Faison also returns to the lineup this season and is joined by Wisconsin transfer Will Pauling to round of the field receiver rotation.

Notre Dame, LSU and Auburn are in similar positions with their receiving cores. Each school has brought in impactful transfers that they're intending to use to build around a returning foundation. Fields has more proven production than both Singleton and Nic Anderson did in 2024. We will have to see all three schools perform with receiving rooms put together with a mix of home grown recruits and transfer portal additions, but an argument could be made for Notre Dame to be higher on this list.

The other honorable mention schools include Oregon, Georgia, Texas and Ole Miss.
