The preseason honors continue to pile up for Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, who was named to the preseason First-Team All-America squad by ESPN. Love has been a unanimous first-team All-America selection this offseason.
Love has breakout campaign for the Irish in 2024, proving to be a constantly highlight reel player. Here is what ESPN had to say about Love:
"Love is poised for an amazing season after rushing for 1,125 yards and 17 touchdowns -- and not losing a fumble -- in Notre Dame's run to the national championship game this past season. Despite playing injured in the postseason, the 6-foot, 214-pound Love showed his mettle. He combines breakaway speed with the kind of toughness and tackle-breaking ability that separates the great running backs." - Chris Low, ESPN
The St. Louis native rushed for a touchdown in every regular season game last fall and his 17 touchdowns were second most all-time in a single season for the Irish. Love ended up scoring a touchdown in 14 of the team's 16 games last fall. His 6.9 yards per carry ranked 7th in the country and was just behind the 6.95 mark behind Heisman Trophy runner up Ashton Jeanty of Boise State.
Love was a big play weapon throughout the season, scoring on runs of 98, 76, 68, 64, 48 and 39 yards. His 98-yard score was the first touchdown ever in the 12-team College Football Playoff. It was also the longest touchdown in the history of the College Football Playoff. Love also had a 32-yard touchdown reception in the 31-24 win over Louisville.
Notre Dame has not had a consensus All-American back since Vagas Ferguson earned the honor back in 1979.
Four Notre Dame opponents also made the preseason ESPN All-America team on offense. Texas A&M guard Ar'Maj Reed-Adams, Texas A&M and Pitt running back Desmond Reid (All-Purpose) were on the first team, while Boise State offensive tackle Kage Casey and Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, Miami (Fla.) earned second team honors.
