Notre Dame Running Back Jeremiyah Love Named A Preseason All-American By Sporting News
Maria Lysaker, USA TODAY Sports

Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love continues to rack up the preseason honors with Sporting News naming him a preseason first-team All-American player. Love has been a unanimous first-team pick from preseason outlets and magazines.

Love had a breakout season in 2024, emerging as one of the most explosive players in the country. Here is what Sporting News had to say about the Irish star:

"Love (6-0, 206) rushed for 1,125 yards and 17 TDs with 28 catches for 237 yards, but it goes beyond the numbers. He had 24 runs of 10 yards or more on 163 carries according to PFF.com – a percentage of 14.7% that could translate to huge numbers with a full workload. Love averages 6.9 yards per carry, and he never had more than 16 carries in a single game last season. We think he will handle the increased workload with great success." - Bill Bender, Sporting News

Love rushed for a touchdown in every regular season game last fall and his 17 touchdowns were second most all-time in a single season for the Irish. His 6.9 yards per carry ranked 7th in the country and was just behind the 6.95 mark behind Heisman Trophy runner up Ashton Jeanty of Boise State.

The Irish sophomore was a big play back throughout the season, scoring on runs of 98, 76, 68, 64, 48 and 39 yards. His 98-yard score was the first touchdown ever in the 12-team College Football Playoff. It was also the longest touchdown in the history of the College Football Playoff. Love also had a 32-yard touchdown reception in the 31-24 win over Louisville.

Should Love end the season as a consensus All-American player it would mark the first time a Notre Dame running back earned that honor since 1979. During that season Vagas Ferguson earned consensus All-America honors after rushing for a program record 1,437 yards and 17 touchdowns while averaging 4.8 yards per carry.

Three Notre Dame opponents also made the All-America squad by Sporting News. Miami (Fla.) offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, Texas A&M guard Ar'maj Reed-Adams and Pitt running back Desmond Reid (All Purpose) were also named to the squad.
