In one of college football's most beloved rivalries, the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes and the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines took the field for the 121st rendition of "The Game" on Saturday.
While Ohio State is coming off a national championship season, the 2024 season saw them lose to Michigan for the fourth straight year. The Buckeyes seem to be in great shape to defend their title, but their fans might absolutely lose it if Ryan Day and company lose to the Wolverines again.
When it comes to rivalry games, every single play, moment and call is put under a microscope, but the officiating crew during the Week 14 clash has certainly done themselves no favors.
Social media is flooded with fans questioning calls they have missed, with one of the more head-scratching misses coming in the first quarter.
With 6:23 remaining in the first quarter and Ohio State in a third-and-goal situation, Michigan star linebacker Jaishawn Barham was frustrated with an official.
As he confronted him about a call, Barham very clearly headbutted the official, which in most cases, touching an official leads to an ejection. Instead, he was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

It didn't take long for the next controversial moment to occur, as about a minute later in the same possession, Ohio State's Julian Sayin tried to sneak into the end zone from the 1-yard line.
While Sayin never really seemed to cross the goal line, as the replay clearly showed him on the ground short of the end zone, the officials called it a touchdown after clearing the pile.

Much to the approval of what was turning into a hostile Michigan crowd, they overturned the call on replay review, and Ohio State ended up settling for a field goal after a false start pushed the offense back on the subsequent fourth-and-goal.
Arguably, the most egregious miss and controversial call came on what was ruled a touchdown catch by Jeremiah Smith.
With 11:51 remaining in the second quarter and in a 4th-and-5 situation, Sayin launched a deep ball to Jeremiah Smith. While the star wide receiver hauled in the pass, he very clearly lost control of the ball as he ran into the end zone and out of bounds, which should have been ruled a fumble, touchback and Michigan's ball.
Instead, the Wolverines lost their lead, while Ohio State eventually went into the half leading 17-9.
As expected, those across social media are not pleased.
So far the refs in Ohio State-Michigan have missed…

-Ejecting a player for headbutting a ref
- Calling an OSU TD when Julian Sayin was a yard short
- Missing a touchback in which I’m 99% sure Smith didn’t have control
Not great. Not great at all
There's still plenty of time left, but it's hard to imagine that the officiating of this one won't be talked in the days ahead.
