Ohio State Buckeyes handed a major recruiting loss during their Big Ten game against Minnesota
Adam Cairns/Columbus Dispatch-USA TODAY NETWORK

The Ohio State Buckeyes are back at home this evening for their only home game of the month. After tonight’s battle with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the Buckeyes won’t have a home game again until Nov. 1 when they host the Penn State Nittany Lions. With that being said, this night game against Minnesota was always going to be one that a bunch of recruits were at.

Former Clemson commit edge Dre Quinn will be in Columbus tonight, as the Buckeyes try to land their second pass rusher for the 2026 class. Away from Columbus, one of Ohio State’s biggest targets just made his decision.

Ohio State misses out on major five-star target Jalen Brewster

Brewster is ranked as the No. 1 defensive lineman and No. 9 player nationally out of Cedar Hill, Texas. It was always going to be tough for the Buckeyes to pull Brewster away from Texas and that indeed won out. Brewster has committed to Texas Tech over Ohio State, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Indiana.

Receiving comparisons to former Georgia Bulldogs star and current Philadelphia Eagles DT Jalen Carter, this is a big-time player coming off the board in the class of 2027. Ohio State is very high on Brewster and was even willing to have him reclassify, which is something the Buckeyes normally stay away from. Ohio State has three defensive tackles committed currently in the class of 2026, but Brewster was a player who could headline a class.

Ohio State pushed hard for this one and the Buckeyes were willing to open up the checkbook. In the end, it is the Red Raiders who won out and that continues what has been successful recruiting for them as of late. Texas Tech may only have the No. 23-ranked class in 2026, but they landed five-star Felix Ojo over the Buckeyes and others.

The Buckeyes have a player who looks like a future early pick at the position in DT Kayden McDonald thriving in Columbus currently. Ohio State just sent Tyliek Williams and Ty Hamilton to the NFL last cycle. Ohio State has proven that DTs can develop nicely with Larry Johnson, but they miss out on this one.
