The Ohio State Buckeyes exited Week 7 of the college football season without any issues with a Big Ten win over Illinois. Ohio State allowed the most points they have this season in their 34-16 win, but picked up a road win over a ranked team in the process. Ohio State was up 20-3 at halftime and didn’t put away the game quite like they should have despite winning by three scores.
Week 7 was a wild one around the college football world and it’ll have the No. 1 Buckeyes even more thankful to be undefeated at this point in the season. Ohio State has plenty of reasons to be happy coming out of Week 7 and the win over the Fighting Illini is just one.

The best win for the Buckeyes this season continues to be a Week 1 win over the Texas Longhorns at home. Texas took a tough loss to the Florida Gators last week and that certainly didn’t help Ohio State’s resume. Week 7 was much different and Texas took down the No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday by a 23-6 margin. That dominating showing by the Longhorns should have them ranked again by the end of the weekend.
Week 7 had No. 7 Indiana taking down the No. 3 Oregon Ducks. Ryan Day and the Buckeyes aren’t scheduled to see Oregon during the regular season, and they may not see them in the Big Ten Championship unless the Hoosiers lose a game the rest of the way. Of course, the Buckeyes have to get there still, and beating Michigan could stand in the way of that. But at this current time, Ohio State has to feel good about its chances of playing for a Big Ten Championship in December.
The Buckeyes played Penn State at the beginning of November and that game at one time looked like it could be pivotal in the Big Ten. After losing to UCLA last weekend, the Nittany Lions followed it up with a loss to Northwestern. Drew Allar was lost to injury in the game and Penn State can’t be seen as a factor in the Big Ten. To round things out, Michigan fell on the road to USC.
Ohio State is at the top of the Big Ten along with Indiana and they’re in a great spot in terms of controlling their destiny. Next up for the Buckeyes is a road game against the Wisconsin Badgers next Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
