Ohio State lands 2027 five-star QB Brady Edmunds over rivals

It's never too early to start collecting high-level recruits and that's exactly what Ohio State is doing with Brady Edmunds.

Edmunds is a 2027 five-star recruit out of Huntington Beach, California, meaning he just completed his sophomore year of high school football. College football may seem like a long time away, but for an elite recruit, being on the radar already with multiple schools is par for the course.

As such, Edmunds has over 20 offers to his name, but he's already wanting to settle down and make a commitment.

With Michigan, Penn State, Texas and Ohio State comprising his top four, the Buckeyes ended up winning out in this recruiting battle. There's, of course, a ton of time for this to change — and in today's college football environment there's a high chance it will — but it's worth noting that Edmunds does have a connection to OSU. His family is from the state of Ohio and he grew up a die-hard fan of the Buckeyes.

“The family connection that I have to Ohio helped Ohio State stand out to me,” Edmunds told On3 regarding his commitment.

He also mentioned OSU head coach Ryan Day and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, though it's worth noting that they may not be long for their positions if they can't pull off a miracle in the College Football Playoff. Day just lost to Michigan for the fourth time in a row, and that's a no-no in Columbus.

Still, Edmunds feels Day and Kelly have developed a strong culture for a young quarterback to come into.

“The culture of Ohio State football, coach Day and coach Chip Kelly played important roles in my decision. They have the best receiving corps in the nation, so it’s a quarterback’s dream to be there right now. I think there’s no better option for me," Edmunds said.

It will be interesting to see if Edmunds' commitment holds if there are any changes at OSU in the near future. Either way, he is a massive commitment for the Buckeyes.

A five-star recruit, he's ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in the 2025 class as well as the No. 10-ranked player nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite.
