The Ohio State Buckeyes were almost captured in the most obvious trap game opportunity we've seen for the program in a few years. A far trip to the West Coast for a redshirt quarterback in his first road game, plus facing an athletic quarterback and an upstart young team, caught the Buckeyes in a close game for three quarters.
But Jeremiah Smith exists, and the Ohio State Buckeyes needed him to break through in this moment. Julian Sayin was good, but the offense only held the ball for three drives in the first half, scoring once. The tide started turning a bit in the second half when Smith became a bigger priority.
Ohio State running back CJ Donaldson was quick to drop a hilarious compliment on Smith's performance.
Donaldson, who totaled 39 yards and one touchdown on nine carries, said that Smith was the catalyst for a more comfortable Buckeyes win as time expired.
“That alien gave us some juice. That guy’s different," Donaldson proclaimed.

Smith totaled 81 yards and one touchdown on eight receptions. The freak sophomore is already up to 28 receptions, 396 yards, and four scores on the year. He's exploded in the last three games since the Texas matchup, and Ohio State has figured out they'll create a high-level offense so long as he's prominently featured.
Saying Smith is an alien who gave the team juice is a funny "pause" moment that the senior likely did not intend on, but does accurately encapsulate his talent and impact level.
