Titans' Brian Callahan makes big admission about future amid job-security chatter

Whispers suggesting the Tennessee Titans could soon part ways with head coach Brian Callahan grew louder after the club fell to 0-4 on the season via a 26-0 loss at what was a winless Houston Texans side this past Sunday.

While speaking with reporters on Monday, Callahan acknowledged that "it doesn't matter" if he has been given any assurance he will be allowed to finish the ongoing campaign in his role.

Brian Callahan seems to understand reality of situation with Tennessee Titans

"I also know how the NFL works," Callahan said, per Reuters. "I think we're running the ball well. I think there have been some really good things defensively. I hate to say anything has been good enough to this point. We're 0-4. We've got to do more of it, and more of it more often."

Callahan is now 3-18 as Tennessee's head coach, and Nick Suss of the Nashville Tennessean mentioned on Monday that the Titans are one of the league's worst 0-4 teams in recent memory. ESPN stats show that the Titans are ranked last in the league with 12.8 points scored per game. Tennessee is also last in the NFL with a -69 point differential.

Callahan handed play-calling duties to quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree ahead of the matchup at Houston's NRG Stadium. That change did little to spark the Titans offense in Week 4.

"When you are 0-4, sort of everything is always on the table. Try to improve, find a place to win," Callahan said on Monday. "I think if you sit back and say everything's great, well, it's not. We're 0-4. We've got to do some things better. Do better, put ourselves in better spots."

Brian Callahan responds to Cam Ward's fiery comments

Following the defeat in Houston, rookie quarterback Cam Ward expressed frustration over the fact that the Titans have "dropped a quarter of our [expletive] games and have yet to do anything." According to ESPN stats, Ward began Tuesday ranked last in the NFL among qualified players with a 23.4 adjusted QBR and 32nd out of 33 quarterbacks with a 63.9 passer rating for the season.

"I think what everyone is learning about Cam is he cares a tremendous amount. That's what he cares about," Callahan said about Ward on Monday. "He wants nothing more than to play well and to win."

As of Tuesday morning, ESPN BET had the Titans as 9.5-point underdogs for this coming Sunday's game at the 2-2 Arizona Cardinals. Such a line indicates certain insiders feel the matchup at State Farm Stadium could get ugly for a coach who badly needs a win this fall.
