The Ohio State Buckeyes have attracted talent with the desire to play in the NFL. Now Ryan Day and company are after the son of a six-time Pro Bowler and past Super Bowl winner.

Class of 2028 talent Gaige Weddle revealed the No. 1 ranked Buckeyes are his newest offer, making the announcement on X, formerly Twitter, on Wednesday night.

His surname will likely ring a bell for NFL fans.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder watched his father star at safety.

The eldest Weddle played from 2007 to 2019 with the San Diego Chargers and Baltimore Ravens. Then the Los Angeles Rams gave him a late phone call to join the 2021 Super Bowl run.

Weddle compiled 1,179 career tackles with 903 solo stops. He delivered four 100-tackle campaigns in his illustrious career.

Weddle earned his first Pro Bowl nod in the 2011 season during a time the Bolts played in S.D. He also led the league with seven interceptions that season.

Weddle added Pro Bowl nods in 2013 and 2014, then '16 through '18. He grabbed 29 career interceptions.

Youngest Weddle Exploding on Recruiting Trail

The son is already one of the most wanted prospects for the '28 class out of Rancho Bernardo High in San Diego.

He's listed as a five-star per the 247Sports composite, right before he officially becomes a junior in high school. Gaige Weddle is the top athlete for his graduating class and the state of California's No. 2 overall prospect.

"Elite football instincts, which isn’t surprising seeing how his father is former NFL all-pro safety Eric Weddle," was what 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Greg Biggins wrote in his prospect evaluation.

Biggins adds how this Weddle is "quick to read, react and trigger and will get downhill in a hurry." Plus includes that the safety "Has old school vibe to his game, all business approach, not a show boater and just makes plays on both sides of the ball."

He's offered by nearly 15 different universities with Matt Guerrieri offering him on behalf of the Buckeyes.

OSU is in early competition with No. 2 Miami and No. 11 Tennessee to land the rising talent.
