Key Points:

  • Julian Sayin was his usual efficient self
  • He passed Purdue and Wisconsin legends
  • The Buckeyes have a week off next

The Ohio State Buckeyes marched into the famous Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday and gave Badgers head coach Luke Fickell yet another reality check, winning 34-0 in an entertaining performance for fans of the passing game.

Buckeyes QB Julian Sayin continued his efficient, surgical ways behind center as he picked apart the Badgers defense, spreading the ball to his playmakers and showing once again that he is a strength of the team in his first season as starter.

The Buckeyes moved to 7-0 on the season while the Badgers fell to 2-5.

Sayin's performance was good enough to pass a Big Ten legend and another well known player on what became a record setting day in Wisconsin's capital city.

Sayin's Record Setting Day

The Carlsbad, California native Sayin has traveled a long way to end up in his current starring role, first heading to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and ending up in Columbus with coach Ryan Day's team.

Saturday's performance included a stellar 36-for-42 stat line including 393 yards and four touchdowns.

Sayin's performance was his sixth straight recording a 70% or higher completion percentage and at least two touchdowns.

Sayin surpassed Aidan O'Connell, formerly of Purdue, and Russell Wilson, formerly of the Badgers in that department as the Buckeyes won handily in a hostile environment. Both accomplished the feat five times in a row.

Penn State a Trap Game for Buckeyes?

Penn State is a wounded animal after its one-point loss to Iowa on the road Saturday. The Nittany Lions have the team speed and talent to give the Buckeyes a game on Nov. 1, Ohio State's next.

The Buckeyes don't have a single ranked team left on their schedule and a Big Ten Championship Game appearance in Indianapolis seems like a formality at this point.

Sayin hasn't been tested as often as last year's national title winning QB Will Howard was, especially during Ohio State's remarkable four-game playoff run, but he will almost certainly face more adversity at some point.

For now, it's time to rest with a bye week up next and a Nittany Lions team that will be playing to save its season headed to Columbus in two weeks.
