When Ohio State went into the transfer portal after their 2023 season they needed a quarterback who could lead the most talented roster in the country.
They found that in Will Howard after he spent four seasons at Kansas State and was able to come in and replace Kyle McCord. McCord went on to land with Syracuse and boosted his stock in the process.

Howard will now try to carve out a role as depth with the Steelers and gets to return home to Pennsylvania. Howard will be joining his teammate Jack Sawyer at the next level, who the Steelers took in the fourth round. At some point, folks think the Steelers sign Aaron Rodgers. If that is the case, Howard will be depth behind Rodgers with Mason Rudolph. The former Ohio State starter brings some quality traits like leadership, physical build, and football IQ that coaches will like. Howard was very good down the stretch run of the College Football Playoff for Ohio State and they wouldn’t have won it without him.
“Will Howard has "10-year NFL career" written all over him, but it's more likely to be as a backup than a starter. There are things you watch and appreciate about his game, including obvious high football intelligence, dual-threat ability, and textbook fundamentals. He's also incredibly tough both mentally and physically. He can lead a locker room. And he has championship pedigree now after transferring to OSU, getting buy-in from his teammates, and leading them to a national championship victory in just 12 months. However, he has very little to offer in terms of arm talent, and he played with the best offensive surroundings in the nation–not to mention with a former NFL head coach as offensive coordinator and Ryan Day as the head man. He's a good player that I have no doubts will be a great guy to have in the quarterback room, but the starter upside may not be there with Will Howard.” — Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports
Buckeye Nation will undoubtedly be rooting on Howard now for what he did in just one year in Columbus, and he lands in a place that should offer him a good opportunity in the NFL.
